SQL & Database Basics Internship
A self-paced virtual internship that teaches relational database concepts and practical SQL, from creating tables and querying data to joins, grouping and simple database design.
Overview
The SQL & Database Basics Internship is a self-paced virtual internship for learners who want to understand how data is stored and retrieved in relational databases. SQL (Structured Query Language) is the standard language used to work with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server and SQLite, and it is a core skill for software, data and reporting roles.
The programme follows four modules in a logical order. You start with database concepts, tables, keys and data types, then learn to write SELECT queries with filtering and sorting. Next you summarise data with aggregate functions and GROUP BY, and finally you combine tables with joins and learn the basics of database design and normalisation. Every module has written study notes with examples, followed by a timed online multiple-choice exam.
You learn at your own pace using a free database tool on your own computer, and complete a capstone project in which you design a small database and write queries that answer real business questions. After meeting the exam requirements you receive a QR-verifiable internship certificate that shows your internship period.
What this internship covers
- Relational database concepts: tables, rows, columns, primary and foreign keys
- Creating tables and inserting, updating and deleting data
- SELECT queries with WHERE, ORDER BY, LIKE, IN and BETWEEN
- Aggregate functions, GROUP BY and HAVING
- INNER and LEFT joins, constraints and normalisation basics
- A capstone project to design and query a small database
Who is this for?
This internship is suitable for complete beginners. No programming background is required; you only need a computer on which you can install a free database tool such as MySQL, SQLite or an online SQL editor.
- Students of computer science, IT, BCA, MCA, commerce or management who want database skills
- Fresh graduates preparing for roles in software support, data entry, MIS or reporting
- Excel users who want to move from spreadsheets to working with databases
- Prerequisite: basic computer literacy and logical thinking
Course duration: 45 days – 3 months · 40 hours of learning

Understand what a relational database is and learn to create tables and manage records with basic SQL commands.
- What Is a Relational Database
- Primary Keys, Foreign Keys and Data Types
- CREATE TABLE and Constraints
- INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE
Outcomes: Describe tables, rows, columns and keys; Create tables with suitable data types; Insert, update and delete records
Retrieve exactly the data you need using SELECT with filtering, sorting and pattern matching.
- SELECT, Column Aliases and DISTINCT
- WHERE with Comparison and Logical Operators
- LIKE, IN, BETWEEN and IS NULL
- ORDER BY and LIMIT
Outcomes: Write SELECT queries for chosen columns; Filter rows with WHERE and logical operators; Sort and limit results and handle NULL values
Summarise data with aggregate functions and group results to answer questions such as totals per city or month.
- Aggregate Functions
- GROUP BY on One or More Columns
- Filtering Groups with HAVING
- Order of Execution of a Query
Outcomes: Use COUNT, SUM, AVG, MIN and MAX; Group rows with GROUP BY; Filter groups with HAVING
Combine related tables with joins, learn the basics of normalisation and complete the capstone database project.
- INNER JOIN and Table Aliases
- LEFT JOIN and Finding Missing Matches
- Normalisation: 1NF, 2NF and 3NF
- Relationships and Designing a Schema
Outcomes: Write INNER and LEFT joins between related tables; Apply first, second and third normal form ideas; Design and query a small relational database

Internship program
This is a self-paced virtual internship. You read the study material, practise the SQL examples in a free database tool on your own computer and take each module exam online whenever you are ready.
How the internship works
- Enrol and get access to all four modules in your dashboard
- Study each module's notes and run the example queries yourself
- Take the timed multiple-choice exam for each module and see your result instantly
- Pass every module with at least 60% and keep an overall average of 70% or more
- Complete the capstone project brief given in Module 4 and download your certificate
Capstone project
In the final module you design a small database for a library or shop, create the tables with keys and constraints, add sample data and write queries that answer practical questions. Your SQL script can be added to your portfolio or GitHub profile.
Internship certificate
Learners who meet the exam requirements receive a digital internship certificate that shows the internship period and carries a QR code for online verification. The programme does not include live mentoring or placement services.

Frequently asked questions
The programme is designed for about 40 hours of study. As it is self-paced, most learners complete it in four to six weeks, depending on how much time they can give each week.
No. SQL is taught from the beginning and no other programming language is needed. You only need a computer where you can use a free database tool such as MySQL or SQLite.
Each module ends with a timed online multiple-choice exam. You get 2 free attempts per module, and extra attempts can be purchased if required.
When you pass every module with at least 60% and reach a 70% overall average, you receive a digital internship certificate that shows your internship period and can be verified through its QR code.
